Case Study : Looking after the Pets

The Brief

Avonvale Veterinary Centres provide high-standard health care for pets in Warwickshire. Seven surgeries are available throughout the day to address pets' health needs. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the centres required additional and outside space to observe strict social and physical distancing measures.

Avonvale approached Zest Marquees to provide marquees at four of the centres where space was at a premium to continue to meet customer and pet needs.

The Challenges

•        Design and build marquee solutions swiftly in response to COVID-19-related policy changes announced by the Government

•        Ensure the marquee is safe and suitable for use by pet owners during the COVID-19 pandemic

•        Create waiting and pre-assessment areas in a marquee and ensure social distancing is maintained

•        Situate the marquee neatly within the available space outside the existing veterinary centres. 

The Solution

      Through discussion with centre owners and the vets themselves, Zest Marquees designed and erected marquees in 4 of the seven centres:- Wellesbourne, Kenilworth, Cubbington and Heathcote 

-        Marquees used were 2 x 6m x 3m frame marquees, a 3 x 6 and a heavy-duty gazebo at Kenilworth where space was particularly tight

-        These were all provided on a long-term basis due to the uncertainty of the pandemic

•        Rapid response: Time from initial consultation to use by the centres and pet owners – 1 week

•        Fully opening side walls to allow for enhanced air circulation during usage

-        Deploy partitions in marquees to help support pet owner privacy

-        Regular monthly maintenance checks ensured the marquee remained safe and secure during the long-term hire

Marquee Features

•        Close locations to each main veterinary entrance  - where possible, in the centre car park

-        Canopy only at two of the centres

-        Partitions where space allowed

•        Mix of Water-based weights and coach bolts, where possible (to anchor marquee on hard surfaces)

The Result

A sizeable veterinary group managed to keep servicing its community and looking after pets' health during the  COVID-19 pandemic. The hire lasted for 12 months which is testimony to the service provided.
