Case Study : Christmas Trees

The Brief

Thrift Wood Christmas Trees is a family run business that was founded by David and Margaret Jarvis over 35 years ago. Set in a 75-acre woodland on the edge of Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, all the trees are British-grown – and are usually available to buy from the last week in November, right up until before Christmas  (or until  sold out!).

Zest Marquees were approached to provide a marquee to showcase and present the types of Christmas trees available to buy.

The Challenges

  • Site the largest marquee size that can fit in the available space
  • Ensure the marquee has open aspects to allow for easy access from the woodland and into the shop ( and also a side opening for staff toilets
  • Create a safe structure for the public to view and purchase the Christmas Trees
  • Space to work was very tight, the location was not square and as a result the build of the marquee required was very precise in order to get as many bays in as possible

The Solution

  • Initially a 6m x 18m marquee was deployed ; however we agreed with the Thrift Wood Farm team to build an additional bay extending the structure to 6m x 21m
  • Festoons were installed in zigzag layout to maximise light and create an aesthetic feature
  • Hire was for approx 6 weeks and secure anchorage was provided through stakes into wood chip overlay base
  • Marquee was set up with open gable ends to provide full access to woodland and the Christmas Shop

Marquee Features

  • Located precisely in the area between woodland and shop
  • Open gable ends with side staff access in one bay
  • Lighting throughout to ensure good visibility for Christmas Tree sales with a seasonal feel

The Result

A lovely family business had a solution for their key retail operation  - selling Christmas trees, decorations, displays  and gifts.  The hire lasted for 6 weeks. Zest Marquees have returned for 3 seasons now to set up a marquee for the Christmas Tree season. Repeat business is an excellent endorsement of customer satisfaction – which is always our primary aim!

As the season of renewal, Easter events are all about fresh air, colourful décor, and making special memories. However, the unpredictable British weather can often dampen outdoor plans. That's where a marquee comes in!

Team-building activities are essential for fostering collaboration, boosting morale, and strengthening workplace relationships. But instead of the usual boardroom setting, why not take your corporate event outdoors? Hiring a marquee offers a versatile, weatherproof space where your team can engage in fun and meaningful activities without the constraints of an indoor venue.

Rustic weddings have become popular for couples looking to celebrate their big day with a natural, charming, and relaxed atmosphere. A marquee provides the perfect blank canvas to bring your rustic wedding vision to life while keeping guests comfortable, no matter the weather.

Planning an event involves a lot of decisions, but one of the most critical is selecting the proper size marquee. Whether hosting a wedding, corporate gathering, birthday party, or festival, the marquee size can make or break your event. Too small, and your guests feel cramped. It is too large and can feel empty or a waste of budget.
